Thought For The Day

Booze and Pot

The good news is in! One quarter of beer drinkers have/are/will switch to marijuana instead. I have always thought there was a little too much beer drinking in this country, so now I can relax a little. . .especially when I drive down the highway after a late-night visit to the hospital. I am 25%  less likely to be run over by a citizen (or non-citizen) driving drunk on beer.

About one in four Americans are now spending their money on marijuana instead of beer, new research from Cannabiz Consumer Group found. Twenty-seven percent of beer consumers are legally purchasing cannabis instead of beer, or suggested they would purchase it instead if it were legalized in their state. The research group surveyed 40,000 Americans last year. (MONEY)

I suppose now I will have to deal with those who are higher than a kite on pot. Surely that is better. . .isn’t it? I have a great idea! What if mind altering substances were not available over the counter – for kids who are still “ignorant,” and teens who have yet to find the sense of ruin that can come to smokers and boozers, and adults who have chosen to risk everything on the off chance that booze and pot, and every other kind of mind altering drug, will never cause the slightest problem in their chosen future.

I know, I know, lots of folks will say, “then it just all comes through the black market with no regulation and no profit for legitimate business.”

I guess they are saying that all the mayhem, injury, damage, destruction, and death ought to at least be profitable to those who have sold their lives to money above all else.

I don’t want to sound mean and cynical. . .wait a minute, yes I do want to do that. I have watched WAY TO MANY lives damaged, and/or destroyed by this stuff. When will we see the light of understanding that just one joint and/or one beer will often start the hookup to a life of dissipation, despair, and death?
