Thought For The Day

A Place to Stand

Have you ever thought about the places you stand in your life? I don’t mean that in the sense of your “political” stand, or  your “theological” stand, or those kind of things. I am thinking about the places I have stood and the incredible beauty I have seen from myriad particular spots. God has blessed me with a lifetime of travel, literally around the World. If that sounds boastful, I apologize. As my age increases my travels seem to decrease, and that is a sad reality for me. I have a lot of pictures of places I have stood to view some of the most amazing sights, but I seldom spend time looking through them. Rather, I keep hoping that there are yet to be some incredible sights that lie before me here on Earth..

In just a few more days I will stand in the most beautiful, moving, and desirable place in my World. I am excited, that if Christ doesn’t come for us before then, I will have that opportunity. I am fairly confident that no one else feels exactly the same about the spot, and that is OK with me. It’s not the Parthenon in Greece, the Coliseum in Rome,  or the Opera House in Sydney, Australia. How many times have I  walked, climbed, or ran along the Atlantic and Pacific shore lines and found my self wishing I never had to leave. My friend, Louis and I, hiked in and out, and spent a few days at the Phantom Ranch next to the Colorado River deep in Grand Canyon. I have hiked parts of the Pacific Coast Trail, the Appalachian Trail, and others, and the sights are nothing short of spectacular. My bride and I have watched the glaciers crack and fall into the sea in Alaska, and I have stood atop Smith Rock in Oregon, and seen Paris from the top of the Eiffel Tower. I have walked the streets of Jerusalem and seen an empty tomb. There is not a single one of them I would not pay to enjoy again. But this spot, in a few days, is my favorite place to stand, and I am eager beyond my own imagination.

Soon, that will all change. There will be a new place to stand. Somewhere out there, far, far away, or closer than I can fathom, I will stand before the King of Glory. I will approach the throne of Grace, gather with the Saints, and begin the exploration of my eternal home. All that has gone before will pale into insignificance. My favorite spot will change. I shall stand before my Savior, face to face, and nothing else will matter any more.

If you are not prepared for that place to stand, we need to talk. Or find a place where news of Redemption is clearly offered, and Heaven is your final favorite place.
