Thought For The Day

A Word of Hope

As I listened today (7/17/16) to the first press conference from BatonRouge, LA, I believe I heard the first word of hope in a long time. There were several who spoke – first, the head of a Police organization, perhaps the Louisiana State Patrol, and last, the Governor. Someone in-between, and I regret I don’t know who (I was driving on Interstate 20 at the time – which requires one’s full attention), made the remark.

I may not quote it exactly. . .but he said, “this (speaking of the BRPD officers killed on Sunday Morning) is not primarily about gun control, but rather, what is in the heart of men.”

At last. . .someone who understands that the problem is not guns or mental illness or racial equality or fairness or political persuasion or money or power. It is about evil. Jeremiah, you remember him from the Old Testament, said it long ago:

The heart is more deceitful than anything else, and incurable — who can understand it. Jeremiah 17:9 HCSB

The heart is deceitful above all things, and it is exceedingly corrupt: who can know it. Jeremiah 17:9 ASV

The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it.       Jeremiah 17:9 KJV

Maybe now we can get on with solving the problem!
