Thought For The Day

Arrogance

Being accused of arrogance stings. Yet it is unlikely that many of us are unfamiliar with the term. . .or the action.

There is a lot of arrogance in our Nation’s capital these days. And it is we, the American people, who are derided by those whose lofty arrogance leads them to say (and perhaps believe) that the only reason things are not going their way is because the American people are too dumb to understand what is good for them.

Yet I wonder if America, at least America’s leaders, are becoming like Moab in the Old Testament. Hear the words of Jeremiah – “We have heard of Moab’s pride, great pride, indeed-insolence, arrogance, pride and a haughty heart. I know his outburst.” [Jeremiah 48:29] Does that sound like one or many of those who “speak” for our Nation? Don’t fail to see the result of such arrogance –“Moab’s calamity is near at hand; his disaster is rushing swiftly.” [Jeremiah 48:16] The prophet goes on to speak about the Leader and the Country when he says, “The Lord will swoop down like an eagle and spread His wings against Moab. Moab will be destroyed as a people because he (individual and Nation) has exalted himself against the Lord.” [Jeremiah 48:40,42]

Foolish indeed are those who would believe the Lord is not interested in our Nation. “Much will be required of everyone who has been given much. And even more will be expected of the one who has been entrusted with more.” [Luke 12:48b]
