Thought For The Day

At Fault

I often look for parallels in temporal and spiritual things. It is not hard to find them. Even with the tragedy that is the terrorist attack in Paris, France, there is insight for Believers who find themselves struggling with sin.

Some commentators are quick to rule out, to one degree or another, a person’s responsibility for their actions. The Truth that God holds each of us personally and individually responsible for our actions is clear.

Here is an example of the desire to justify terror – as if there were any possibility such could be justified.

“These guys never felt fully French, especially Algerians, or the children of Algerians. To them, the memory of [France’s occupation and war in Algeria] is always here. It’s profound. It’s an injury that the children of immigrants have been living with their whole life, while also facing discrimination.” It is partly that stigmatization that drove Mostefai, who was of Algerian descent, to extremism, . . . . (TIME)

Often Believers who have chosen a path of disobedience look for every opportunity to find some consolation in blaming anything but their own actions. From, “the devil made me do it,” to some perceived failure of their parents or their Church, even the environment or society itself.

Believers are indwelled by the Spirit of God. All power and ultimate victory is available. Disobedience is a choice. For almost all Believers it is a conscious choice. Shifting blame will not absolve one of the consequences.

Terrorist are at work not because society has failed them, but because they choose that path.

Amen, as you say, they have Actively (by commission) chosen not to have their “Past” (and all that entails) absolved by the living god. Also as you stated, absolution is freely available, freely Given, Always available. I think our pastor is saying the same thing with the added Reminder that we should actively engage (with the gospel) those who choose to live in disobedience.
