Thought For The Day

Being The Best

I guess being the best at what one does is a real thrill. Unfortunately I don’t have first hand knowledge. But there is a problem. . .at least in my eyes.

I llove watching the Olympics. I am not excited about all the sports. . .and, of course, running is my favorite to watch. Has to be boring for those who don’t like running – sort of like watching paint dry.

There is one runner that really taxes my interest, however. I am glad to admit that he is terrific at what he does, but he flaunts it so boldly that it leaves me wanting to see him in second. . .or third place. I cheered Biles and Phelps and others, but had that empty feeling when U. Bolt won the 100m.

During his warmup, while his opponents were lingering at the starting line, Bolt jogged out about 30 meters down the track, turned around and held his arms up, soaking in the adulation as if he were royalty. He shimmied for the cameras, pointed, tried his best to be a showman. The act works. (TIME)

I imagine he is a wonderful guy. But, I know the Scripture speaks of humility, even in greatness.  One puts a heavy load on others when they seem to lack any desire to encourage and support others toward success, especially when unbridled boasting and showmanship is followed by winning.

I am sure it is a personal problem for me. My running partner is so much better than I am, but never is there any word or act that is not encouraging and supportive. I llove it when we cross the finish line together. My partner does too.

Maybe, if “running” is all you have, such showmanship is “all” that you can do.
You, being part of the bride of Christ, have so much more…..I think the word “everything” comes to mind.
