Thought For The Day

Bully

We’re (our society) just letting this “bullying” thing get out of hand. There are folks who are now complaining about the fact that a football team (who happens to be very, very good) beat a team that is just not very good at all. The score? 91 – 0.

If you check the facts the winning team averages 69 point per game against anyone. The coach played every single one of his 55 players, even those who had never even been in a “real” game before. He (the coach) is being lambasted by some as the king bully. What’s he supposed to do? Tell his players to stop playing, “take a knee,” don’t tackle? Don’t block. Don’t run the plays. Don’t run for the goal? No doubt these boys have worked hard to get where they are. They deserve to play to the best of their ability.

What silliness. Sometimes teams are mismatched. The losing team in this case is not angry or upset. Their coach is not distressed about the score. It is what it is. But there are people driving this “bully” thing, and looking for any excuse to pump it up.

The Enemy has been pushing Believers around forever. He entices them, leads them astray, damages their faith, beats the victory out of them, and find ways to hinder or end their involvement with the things of God. What you have to understand is that he is not a bully at all. In fact he has no power over a Believer. He is a defeated foe. He is damaged goods and flees at the sound of Truth. If we are not victorious, it is our fault, not his. He’s just doing what he does.

So let’s talk about the “losers” here. Maybe they need to recognize who they are. Perhaps they need to follow clearly and accurately the “Coach” and his path of reaching victory. Maybe they need to work harder at learning, growing, depending, and exercising their faith under the Lordship of Christ.

The winning team in the illustrative material above is not a bully. They are just good at what they do – and they will do it, as they should, to the best of their ability. If you want to stop them. . .well, you best get crackin’.
