Thought For The Day

Celebrate

It is almost time. Nine days, and the biggest event in some people’s lives will occur. More money spent, more time with the family, more gifts than one can imagine, more sweets (have you ever seen so much candy and nuts) will fill the next few days. I like it. But, keep focused not only on celebrating “the child born,” but more importantly on celebrating “the Son given.” I continue to believe that the focus of Christmas is on the Cross. That is why the child was born – He was the Son given to redeem mankind from the curse of sin and death.

Joseph was told by an angel to name the child whose birth we celebrate, Jesus. He was the Son who would “save His people from their sins.” (Matthew 1:21).

Isaiah said we must recognize that the child born in Bethlehem so long ago is, “Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace.” (Isaiah 9:6)

It was only a few short years later that John the Baptizer would announce: “Here is the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the World.” (John 1:29)

Celebrate – the Birth of the Savior.
