Thought For The Day

Christmas Bonus

I spoke with a friend who told me he was receiving a huge financial “bonus” at the end of the year. I am not surprised. He is an excellent employee, committed, smart, competent, and knows how to make his “boss” look good. In the “bonus” arena, that last item is the most important ingredient in being successful.

Lots of people I know talk about how magnificent it is going to be when they get to Heaven. . .following this life. And, of course they are right. Unfortunately sometimes, Heaven is all they think about when they are thinking about Spiritual things. You know the conversation – “When I get to Heaven. . . .etc.!

Maybe, just maybe, we could think about Heaven as the “bonus” that comes with Redemption. If we get too Heavenly-minded (note the emphasis on “too”) we fail to experience and enjoy the wonder and awe that can be, even ought to be, a part of our daily walk with Christ via His indwelling Spirit. Everything that is ours (because we are His) is already a part of our life in Christ. I know we cannot “see” Him, or “enjoy” the spectacular, unutterable, lavish splendor and majesty of Heaven, but that will come soon enough. In the meantime, what if we lived as if Heaven’s greatest treasure, the Savior Himself,  were with us here, and He is, and our fellowship was intimate and personal, and it ought to be, and the ministry of our calling in Christ was carried out so as to make Him look to be who He is, revealing His Word, His Power, and His Llove, as we are commanded to do. Then, truly, we would know “Heaven on Earth.”

This Christmas season, as we celebrate God’s incarnation in human flesh, His glorious gift of  infinite grace, and His gift of EVERY spiritual blessing, why not give Him the gifts of your full attention, llove, and absolute obedience.

The “bonus” awaits. Just because it is yours doesn’t mean your work is ended. Rather, while you are here, there is much to do, and He is here, in you, lloving you, empowering you, continuously providing every spiritual blessing so that you may “walk worthy of your calling to faith and ministry.”

And, secretly,  honestly, you are hoping the “bonus” is a little further down the road, right? Yep. Thought so.
