Thought For The Day

Condemned

Perhaps I am looking at the wrong side of things. What is really important is often a matter of priorities. Sometimes we “get the cart before the horse.” (I know that may not be a well-known phrase for some of our younger readers.)

I read this quote from the President of the United States in an article regarding his current adventure in Alaska. I am quite sure we (read: the U. S. National leadership) have reached the point where we are concerned about the wrong thing.

“We will condemn our children to a planet beyond their capacity to repair,” Obama said. Alluding ironically to the threat of rising seas, he castigated leaders who deny climate change as “increasingly alone — on their own shrinking island.” (TIME)

It is my considered opinion that we have already condemned our children to a Country “beyond repair” in almost every way. Our financial well-being is (has) eroding past recoverability, our “shrinking island “ of common morality grows exponentially, our National leadership is totally ineffective in resolving the continuing crisis in immigration, health care, crime, general welfare, all while our military capability has reached the point where we cannot, or will not, stop the rising tide of terroristic jihad around the World.

God has made certain promises regarding our planet. Earth will remain, habitable and environmentally friendly as long as He desires it to do so. Unfortunately we do not have that promise, or any other, regarding our Nation when we have cast Him aside in our thinking and actions.

My suggestion is that we return to God’s sovereignty in our Nation – “Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord, the people whom he has chosen as his heritage” (Psalm 33:12) – and stand on the promise of that Sovereign God – “As long as the earth endures, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, and day and night will not cease.” (Genesis 8:22) – and perhaps the “condemnation” we fear will become the “grace” He offers.
