Thought For The Day

Confusing?

Listening to and reading the articles in the media by political pundits often leaves me confused. I am not the sharpest knife in the drawer, but I am not easily fooled.

Hence, I wonder when one “loses by winning,” or “winning even though one lost.” Well, that is what some or saying. By the time you read this post you will know who “won,” or “lost,” or will you? In New Hampshire (I am writing this on Tuesday, Feb. 9,2016) there will be winners and losers. . .I think.

What if Bernie Sanders and Donald Trump win, but not by a lot, and therefore “lose”? This is a far more perilous situation for Sanders: if he wins by less than 10 points, Hillary Clinton will do the Comeback Kid routine, declare victory and get out of Dodge.

If [Trump] is down in the mid-20s, that means his opponents will be, at the very least, in the high teens — if someone cracks 20%, given what we’ve seen in the polls so far, they will “win” the way Marco Rubio won the expectations game in Iowa. (Joe Klein, TIME)

Maybe it is similar to how it is with life. You can win everything the World has to offer, be more successful than you would ever imagine, and lose it all at the close of your life when you face the Infinite God of Heaven and Earth and find yourself separated from Him forever. On the other hand, you could lose all those things the World has to offer, fail at almost everything you do, and yet when your time comes to meet Holy God Almighty, because of the blood of Christ, you inherit the Kingdom of Heaven, the riches of Glory, and an endless life in the presence and power of the Savior.

Is it a conundrum? It doesn’t have to be. Somewhere near you, probably closer than you think is a person, a Pastor, a Church, that can answer the question for you. No doubt it is vitally important who wins the Presidency of the United States. But, hear me, not nearly so important as understanding the Good News that GRACE is available for you. (see Romans 10:9-10,13)
