Consistency

I often enjoy a conversation with my favorite restauranteur. Since he feeds me for free, I can’t be hyper critical, and there is no reason I would be. The food is great. What I like, and what I keep insistently harping on is the necessity of consistency of product. The reason we go back to the same restaurant to eat is because we like what they serve and we like the way they serve it. He agrees with me, by the way.

Now if we could just bring that consistency over into the arena of politics. I am looking for some folks to lead our Nation who are no longer “evolving,” but, rather, have come to some conclusion on what is right, true, honest, valuable, and necessary to save our society from itself.

This is not a “support” piece, nor have I personally chosen a candidate for President in 2016 that I will vote for. I do like it that some of those running seem to be consistent. For example:

In speaking about a rape (in Paraguay) and his opposition to abortion, Gov. Mike Huckabee acknowledged that many people, including some in his own party, find this position outside the mainstream and said he respects that position but feels he needs to remain consistent. “If life matters, and if that’s a person, then every life matters,” he said. (TIME)

Evidently he no longer needs to “evolve.” He has chosen his position (and God’s) in this matter, and plans to maintain it, even in light of the tragedy that brought about the question related to his position.  Good! How much more valuable is that to our understanding than those individuals who may change their mind at any moment about anything.

It is not God-like? For indeed the Scriptures tell us “Jesus Christ is the same, yesterday, today, and forever.” (see Hebrews 13:8)

That is consistency!
