Thought For The Day

Deep Water Insight

In Mark 5 we read the narrative of Jesus sending Simon out into the deep water after he had fished all night and caught nothing. There are a multitude of insights we can gain from that passage. The preacher shared eleven of them in tonight’s service.

One of them struck home in this writer’s thinking. After Simon had experienced the amazing sufficiency of God, and knew he had doubted the blessing was coming his way, said to Jesus, “Go away from me, I am a sinful man.” When we are genuinely in the presence of our Lord it is easy to see who and what we really are. Hopefully that insight will lead us to the same path Simon walked as he matured in The Faith, became the one we know so well as Peter, and wrote vital portions of God’s revealed Word as he was inspired by the Holy Spirit.

No doubt he never became a sinless man, but he discovered the matchless grace of God, the absolute sufficient of His power in the life of men and women, and the indescribable joy of learning to serve the Father with joy.

God grant that our experience will include that vision often enough to keep us on track.
