Thought For The Day

Delighting God

We have a tendency to listen to people we believe to be important. Sometimes what we believe and what is reality is a bit off, but then, we all make mistakes. Sometimes we remind ourselves to listen to “older” people because they usually have the most experience and have been through the common problems and circumstances of life. It is our loss when we write age and experience out of the equation.

What is not always certain is if we have heard what the Lord said. Do we know, can we verbalize, what delights Him. If you were given a one question, pass/fail test, with the following question, could you get it right? “In what does the Lord God of Heaven and Earth delight?” There is no trick involved here. The answer is clearly proclaimed in Scripture. But, many people miss that. . .or blow it off as unimportant and mandatory.

In Jeremiah 9:23-24 we read: “This is what the Lord says: The wise man must not boast in his wisdom; the strong man must not boast in his strength; the wealthy man must not boast in his wealth. But the one who boasts should boast in this, that he understands and knows Me—that I am Yahweh, showing faithful love, justice, and righteousness on the Earth, for I delight in these things. This is the Lord’s declaration.

Trusting in what we call “wisdom” can be tricky. Strength and riches are fleeting. Basing our life on the concepts that often guide those who are powerful and rich can lead to disappointment and despair. Listening to “your inner voice” at the expense of listening to the Creator and Sustainer of life is a foolish decision.

The answer to the question – In what does God delight? – is ultimately simple: show faithful llove, practice justice and righteousness while you live on this Earth. Then when this life is over, you will spend eternity with our delighted and delightful Heavenly Father.
