Thought For The Day

Disturbed by God

Sometimes I get disturbed by the silliest things. I watched a few (very few) minutes of the Democratic Debates this past week. Some of the proposals that seem to keep popping up “disturb” me.  How could one not be disturbed by our current Administration and the seeming lack of civility which affects politics from day to day.

But then I am reminded that “this World is not my home.” I am a citizen of Heaven, and my future there is bright with promise. Still, I am disturbed by the reality that there are those who are not disturbed by God – in the sense that most fail in the very basics of following the design He has provided for those who are Believers – currently residing in this World.

The Truth is our Father has offered peace, llove, comfort, Light and life, help and power – all found in the cross of Christ. He has called men and women from darkness to light, from despair to hope, from death to life. Wouldn’t it follow that we can, through absolute obedience, live lives embracing those gifts? Should we not be disturbed when we see failure along those lines in our day to day walk with the Savior, and in the life of our brothers and sisters in Christ?

When Jesus of Nazareth walked this Earth, He was not popular with everyone. He still isn’t. But I am disturbed when that mindset infects the life of His family, the Church, in 2019. Perhaps we all ought to be disturbed by that failure.
