Thought For The Day

Do Over

Did you ever want a “do over?” You did something you didn’t get exactly right, and given the opportunity, you would like to try again with the hope of getting it right.

Sometimes in this life there are no “do overs.” You were driving too fast on the icy road and ended up in the ditch. Your “do over” would be to drive more carefully and hopefully avoid the ditch and the cost of replacing the damaged parts of your automobile. Unfortunately there is no “do over.”

Have you ever met someone for the first time, and instead of remembering their name you manage to call them by an incorrect name the next time you see them? You can always apologize for your inattention (or whatever caused that mistake) and use your “do over” by calling that person by the right name quickly. Unfortunately, they will probably not soon forget you mistake.

God is more forgiving than most (actually all others, I’m sure). Sometimes a Believer chooses a disobedience in relationship to God’s design for life. It might be a small thing, or something that is devastating. Either way, we get a “do over.” Confessing (meaning to agree with God about the matter) brings His forgiveness. The best part is that when He forgives, the Scripture tells us, He remembers the matter never again. (see Jeremiah  31:34)

I am convinced that we, as Believers, need to give everyone who “sins against us” a “do over.” If you are not in the forgiveness business, you need to be. In fact, the Scripture reminds us that He forgives us as we forgive others. (see Mark 11:26Luke 6:37)

Be a constant provider of “do overs.”
