Drinking Booze: Are You Now?

There is a lot of literature available on the “good” and bad things associated with alcohol as a beverage. Believe me, I am quite aware of what the Scripture has to say about drinking, and the preponderance of God’s counsel is that it is a bad thing.

Our society, which has long embraced plenty of booze, is divided on the issue, and there are lots of reports and studies that try to set a limit for when booze is OK and when it is harmful. From what I can read, the studies are mixed. Suffice it to say that no one I know is embracing the kind of drinking that characterizes a significant segment of the population.

Almost all the studies I have read focus on the health issues. The findings are not pretty (like the can, bottles and models). Damage to the heart, along with other organs, the circulatory system, and brain are clear and present. Driving while drinking is a major contributor to mayhem and death. Wreckage of families, homes, lives, businesses, and every other facet of life are legion.

There are so many ways to destroy one’s body, wreck one’s home, create havoc in the workplace, and damage relationships – it seems wise to say, “why let booze be one of the culprits when the bad so quickly eclipses any perceived value?”

If one needs booze for ANY REASON, one is living outside life’s Designer’s purpose. Stop while you can, if you can. If you think that is not wise counsel, you disagree with God (Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise. Proverbs 20:1)

Don’t do that!

I couldn’t agree more, I have experienced the loss of a Son in law who was 26 yrs old and simply driving home from work. He was killed by a drunk driver only five blocks from home. When arrested and told by police what he had done, the guy laughed that he had just killed a young father to be. He spent less than the 13 years in jail and is now out, without remorse, and back to his old ways. Drinking alcohol, Very bad, and very sad.

    Amen.
So one of my favorite Stories (from a COP) concerning how Smoking is seemingly more culturally shameful than Alcohol: he said That “I have never responded to a call where a woman stated that her husband, after smoking all day, decided to beat her.”
