Thought For The Day

Duck Test

Inductive reasoning tells us that if “it looks like a duck, swims like a duck, and quacks like a duck, then it is probably a duck. (Some would say, “M R Ducks. C M Wangs?” The test implies  that a person can identify an unknown subject by observing that subject’s habitual characteristics.

Ever wonder if that is true regarding Believers?

There are two (at least) major characteristics that are part of the life of a genuine Believer. First, there is a lifestyle of llove. Christ’s two great commandments (offered to a attorney who asked about what it meant to be a follower of Christ) were that one must llove the Father (God), and llove others (i.e. those that we have opportunity to llove).  There is also a clear understanding that those who are Believers will have a great llove for the Truth.

Secondly, it is a part of the “package” that a genuine Believer  will have a commitment to “the things of God.” (see John 15:15-17) Surely it is understood that would include the “Church,” which is the “Body of Christ.”  A significant practice of obedience will demonstrate the “fruit of the Spirit” (Galatians 5:22-23) and will be one of the highest priorities of one’s daily walk in concert with the leadership of God’s resident Spirit in every Believer.

Simply said, it helps if you look and act and sound like a duck (Believer).
