Thought For The Day

Empty Words

There is a reality in our World these days that affects the Church of Jesus Christ in an extremely damaging way. Paul spoke about it in Chapter 5 of his letter to Ephesus. While speaking about “how to walk” as a Believer, and demanding that the born again Believer be imitator of the life of Christ, he reminds us “uncleanness” must not be a factor in our  lives. It would appear that there were those in the “assembly” who claimed to be Believers but whose lifestyle continued to embrace all kinds of evil. We understand that no Believer will be sinless, but we must constantly and consistently continue to offer no assurance of salvation to a professing believer whose life is characterized by persistent sin, and shows no desire or hunger for the that which is pure and holy.

Their words are empty. Scripture is quick to say that a continuous lifestyle of appearing like a person who is not “born again,” and is failing to live out the truths of those who have come to faith, is headed for wrath because of their disobedience. (see Ephesians 5:1-6) Again, that is not to say that sin is not existent in the life of those who are redeemed, but rather a particular pattern develops in those who are walking so as to become more fully obedient to the calling of God’s Spirit in daily life.

If we need an example, our Nation is overburdened by politicians who voice a steady stream of empty words. They offer what they cannot provide. They seem to believe that offering more and more, ignoring fiscal reality, will keep them in control of the power wagon. The coming financial disaster will damage every individual in our Nation. What a wonderful World it would be if everyone was obedient in the design of God for His World. We would all be soon fitted for Heaven. What a day that will be!!
