Thought For The Day

FBC Pastor a Bigot

One of President Trump’s closest evangelical advisers gave the prayer Monday at the opening of the new U.S. Embassy in Jerusalem. But Robert Jeffress’s past comments about other faiths, including Judaism, followed him to the event. (E. Scott, Washington Post)

I am supposing a lot of people would have been happier with a “written prayer” read from the lips of someone who believes all religions are the same (which they are**), and that everyone is going to Heaven when they die. Those guys and gals are easy to find. The exist in every community, and are eager to lead folks astray.

People like Robert Jeffress, Pastor of FBC, Dallas, TX, is not your guy for that kind of ignorance. I am not sure if President Trump believes like Jeffress, but every intellectually honest person would understand that anyone who believes the Bible, and proclaims the Truth of Scripture (God’s revealed Word), and is not willing to compromise on ANY issue of  that Truth, would upset a host of folks who have no idea about real Truth.

Some call Dr. Jeffress a bigot. I would imagine he would gladly accept that in the Biblical sense, and that the perfect bigot (by definition) was Jesus of Nazareth, Son of God, Messiah, and Lord of all.

In case you don’t know, the definition of “bigot” is as follows: a person who is intolerant toward those holding different opinions.

Jesus said, “I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life. No one comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:6), and the Apostle Peter , under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, said in Acts 4:12: “There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under Heaven given to people, and we must be saved by it.” That is about as intolerant as one is likely to find. And, that is good company in which to find one’s self.

A man who holds fast to this – his belief -, and speaks clearly of his faith, is no “bigot” as one  might find among other men on other issues. Rather, he should be lauded as a man committed to Christ. I would choose to stand with Christ, and Jeffress, and among all others who are so bigoted.

** (Editor’s Note) Religion is mankind’s failed attempt to find God. Christianity is God’s designed purpose to redeem all people from the curse of sin and death.
