Thought For The Day

Goals for 2020

When one thinks about setting goals in life, it is easy to set the bar higher than is realistic. It is also likely one will shortchange one’s self setting the bar too low. How great would it be to have 1000 new subscriptions to LLOVELETTERS in 2020? Maybe that’s a bit high (since we don’t actively seek subscribers). Just a few people telling another about it, and inviting them to join in the reading would be a good thing, but kinda short of what we could hope for. In the end, it is important that we make a wise decision about what we are going to do to reach others, and accept the things we are not willing to do.

It make me realize that goal-seeking is a discipline that requires a lot of thinking, praying, and working, the last being a bit harder than the other two. I am confident it is the same for all the goals in our life. We can think and pray and do a range of things from little to nothing. Or, we can do lots of “work ” preceded by shallow thinking and very little praying,

It is evident that our goals in relationship to “maturity of faith” are encompassed with the same criteria. We talk about “lloving” everybody, but can point to no one individual that we have added to our family of people we genuinely llove. We can claim a desire to know the Word of God more clearly, with greater depth and understanding, yet cannot remember a time when we spent a day or an hour,  undistracted by the World around us, hearing the teaching of the Spirit of God deep within our being. We can share with others the necessity of being part of the family of God, while we are often missing from the gatherings, and inattentive when we are part of the group.

If one’s  goal for 2020 includes spiritual growth, greater understanding of Truth, and a desire to be part and parcel of the family of God on Earth, one must do some serious thinking, spend time communing and communicating with God via the supernatural pipeline that is prayer, and working (expending time and energy, committed to task) at obedience in the path that leads to righteousness.

Set a lofty goal in 2020 – but make it manageable. You know you, right? Set the bar high enough to be challenging, low enough to know success. Spiritual maturity takes a minimum of one complete lifetime.
