Thought For The Day

Good Times

There are multiple ways to have a good time. Some folks who are looking for a good time look in the wrong places, do the wrong things, and ultimately have a really bad time. I learned long ago that the people with whom I associate often dictate the “goodness” of the time that I have with them.

Such was the case last evening when, having been invited to the home of friends for a “get together,” I had a delightful time.” There was plenty of good food, great desserts, sweet tea, and a group of amazing people. Sitting around the table after eating quickly turned into “story time” with laughter highlighting the narratives and “stretches” which may have been a part of the chronicles told.

It is a loss for many that have moved away from gathered friends because other distractions have preempted one’s attention. Even good things – like Church – have gobbled up our time and kept us from sharing our memories of times past – whether we knew each other or not – discovering commonalities that are a part of our life and history.

Maybe one day, when we get to Heaven (you are going. . .right?), there will be time for such things. I am always amazed the way our paths cross, and our experiences coincide with the experiences of others. I am convinced it is God, working in and through us to “cross paths,” experience the same problems and joys, and learn we are all one family, God’s family, and He joins in the celebration with joy as we share our lives with each other.

Don’t work so hard, or get so inwardly focused, or feel so inadequate that you fail to enjoy the camaraderie of being with others. Don’t hesitate to invite folks to tell  you the details of the life they have lived, and the tales of good times experienced along life’s journey.

I had a GREAT time last night. It’s been a while. I just get so busy. . . .
