Thought For The Day

Great Danger Ahead

I used to warn my boys, when they were in public school, about “passing notes” in the classroom. Not only did teachers and administrators frown on such behavior, sometimes the notes became  fodder for about which others would talk, and sometimes they were forwarded to parents, at which point, at my house, we had a “talk.”

Oh, how things have changed. For those of you who have teenagers in your home, there is so much more evil about which we must inform, teach, warn, guide,  discourage, indeed stop, before their lives are damaged in any number of ways.

Cell phones (communication devices, cameras, storage lockers, and tools that allow for the development of illegal activities) can be dangerous in the hands of undisciplined individuals. Our teens (indeed all of us) must understand that anything that is “possible” creates “possibilities” for damage to life and happiness, and may affect one’s life for the entirety of one’s life.

Perhaps the most dangerous activity teens find themselves involved in is “sexting.”

News reports are increasingly documenting legal repercussions after indecent photos appear online. And attorneys say there are many unanswered questions about whether young people who send their own photos could face prosecution for obscenity or child pornography. (ABC News)

Teens, who are often not as wise as they might think, can be caught in degrees of “trouble” from having their phone confiscated (by school staff or parents) to being charged with crimes as serious as possessing and distributing child pornography. Some may go to prison and/or find themselves having to register as a “sex offender” for the remainder of their life.

As Believers we must know the Truth regarding God’s design for sex and sexual matters. In our society the reality of “what is” is a zillion miles from what “ought to be,” according to God’s Word.

Make sure your “kids” know the Truth, and the truth, about such things. This is not an area where silence is golden.
