Thought For The Day

Great Men

Someone said, “you know when your are getting old, when your friends are dying around you.”  I know that to be the case.

I have had the opportunity (thank God) to be surrounded by some Great Men over the years, and way to soon (from my perspective), some have gone on to Heaven. I know it is AMAZING for them, but the loss is profound for those families of whom they are a part, and for those of us who lloved them from other perspectives.

Don Clayton was a Great Man. We both worked for American Airlines, a few years for me, a career for him, and we talked about so many opportunities that arose out of that employment. He was a Deacon, Trustee, and member of the Leadership Team at the Church I attended. I was often in his home, and along with his wife and mine, around the table, we laughed, shared tears, learned, and lloved. He was a mentor, teacher, leader, and friend.

He always gave wise counsel, and I was constantly asking for it. Sometimes I foolishly questioned his thinking, but I knew well his wisdom, care, llove, and his heart for the things of God.

Due to distance and circumstances I did not see him during the closing months of his life. I was going to. . .I planned to. . .I wanted to. . .but the opportunity slipped away. I will regret that until the day I see him again around the Throne.

He was a Great Man! His home going is sweet, and well deserved, but I am saddened by the loss, and will never forget the impact of his life on mine.

Thanks, Don! Thanks so much.
