Thought For The Day

Holy

Some people, perhaps most people, struggle with embracing the idea that children of God are holy. It is a “positional” truth to which we must bring our obedience, wisdom, commitment, and dedication before it become “experiential.”

We don’t see our self as holy because we choose to live unholy lifestyles, or refuse to allow holiness to capture our thoughts and actions. The Scripture teaches us that to be holy is to be like Christ. To be like Christ we must think as He thought and act as He acted. The Scriptures remind us that Christ was obedient (see Philippians 2) – even unto death. As we read the narratives of the Gospels, we see His lifestyle of commitment and dedication to His calling.

The Apostle John reminds us in his Epistle (see 1 John) that God is llove, and Christ exemplified and exhibited that llove in totality through every action, word, and thought. That is the “key,” of course, to our becoming holy. Practice the disciplines of llove (see 1 Corinthians 13:4-8) – toward God; with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength.  And – toward others; as we touch the lives of those around us through whatever contact makes up our relationship.

Holiness is not for a select few – rather, it is for every child of God.

How are you doing on holiness?
