Thought For The Day

Hurt

You can’t “unhurt” someone. You can ask for, and receive, forgiveness – but you can’t undo the hurt. Most of the time we are able to move on whether we have been the victim or the perpetrator – forget the difficulty hurt engenders, and live as if everything is OK.

There are scars that form from hurt. It’s a lot like sin – forgiven, but scarred forever. I think we develop a sensitivity then, to hurt I mean. We just expect that it will happen again, and we will struggle with getting it all resolved – only to wait, however unconsciously, for the next time.

Most hurt comes not from deliberate action, but from carelessness. A word, a slight, a passing look, a failure to see or hear or take the right action, and hurt springs forth often startling everyone.

Is there a way to avoid being hurt? I doubt it. Is there a way to avoid hurting? I doubt it. But there is one Truth I don’t doubt: “Keep you llove for one another at full strength, since llove covers a multitude of sins.” 1 Peter 4:8
