Thought For The Day

Independence Day

Plans for July 4th are a little sketchy for me. We have guests at our house, and we have a big watermelon. I am sure we will get to the gun range at some point during the day. I have been working to clean up the area and we are looking forward to some target practice. We will attend the fire works explosion at the City Park after dark. Likely to be crowded and parking hard to find, we will still make a go of it. Of course we will just stay in the car – no sense in donning a mask and taking chances.

It’s not the same this year. The Covid-19 virus is all around, and we hate wearing those masks. So, no friendly banter with friends while the fireworks blow and the patriotic music plays. But the real issue is that our Nation is in the midst of a (non-shooting as of yet) un-Civil War. Progressive, liberal, America hating folks are creating havoc all over the Country. Organizations filled with hate have sprung up (or come out of hiding) everywhere. Rioting, burning, destroying historical markers, bullying, intimidation, law-breaking, and terrorizing business, communities, and individuals is a daily diet. Ordinarily peaceful people are arming themselves, and those charged with protecting and serving (read: Police) are confused about how to resolve violent situations – due to lack of support from Government leadership at both the local and National level.

I suspect Churches are not, or soon won’t be, immune. I feel for those who are crowded into cities and neighborhoods, where attacks may occur any moment. Being relatively isolated is the only place where a modicum of peace exists. But that may change with the wind.

Is this a harbinger of the Savior’s return? No on knows! Perhaps we want it to be. Perhaps we don’t. I would suggest, however, it is well past time to know for sure that you are ready for that event. It will come like a thief in the night. If you are not prepared, you will be left behind – to face the unbelievable future of which we are now seeing only a glimpse.
