Thought For The Day

Insurance

I heard someone say recently that he had his “fire insurance,” and he meant by that he was certain (well, nearly certain, sorta kinda) his salvation would keep him from the “eternal fires of Hell.” Besides being crass and unthinking, it belittles the infinite grace of God and handles with carelessness the sacrifice of Christ on Calvary.

Now beyond that, it is nothing like insurance. I was talking with an insurance company very recently and noted some of the differences. With insurance companies, if you file a claim it is likely to result in increased premiums, and if you file more than one, don’t be surprised if they fail to renew your policy when it expires.

On the other hand, all of the benefits of being a Child of God are always available and you can (and must) draw on all the resources provided on a regular and continual basis. There is no expiration date, and cancellation is not even part of the vocabulary much less a possibility for occurrence.  Furthermore, there is no premium — it is FREE, totally and completely a gift from God without cost or reserve.

Don’t be guilty of treating your redemption like an insurance policy. With the latter you call on the day you suffer loss, hope you are covered, and try not to faint when the deductible amount is announced. With the former, you stay in regular contact (daily), draw on the limitless resources available in Christ Jesus, ministered to you by His Spirit, and forever without costs or deductibles. Plus, in the former you have the comfort and joy of joining with others who will support you, encourage you, pray for you, and llove you with the overflowing llove of Christ in their life.

Insurance policy? Hardly!!
