Thought For The Day

It Just Won’t Run

My second son and I spent the morning working on a non-running four-wheeler. We did all kinds of things from talking about it, to thinking about it, even consulting the Internet, and finally, removing parts one by one and. . .fooling around with them. Here’s the conclusion: it will start, but it won’t run. We concluded that it has a problem, we just don’t know what it is.

BUT, I am reminded of a lot of folks that are part of the Church of Jesus Christ. They start, but they won’t run. The writer of Hebrews said, in Chapter 12, “Therefore, since we also have such a large cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us lay aside every weight and the sin that so easily ensnares us. Let us run with endurance the race that lies before us….” It is vitally important to know the “weights” and “sin” that have captured our attention, and “lay them aside” by confessing them to God (see 1 John1:9) and abandoning them from the course of our life (race).

The best ways to abandon sin in our life is to surround ourselves with the Truth of God’s Word, and others who are in the same process (the Church of Jesus Christ), while building the endurance required for those who wish to overcome the World. Knowing the Truth and being faithful to the family of God is not easy. There are a thousand distractions, and the Enemy is constantly stealing (those who will allow him to) the daily victory available in Christ.

I may never get this four-wheeler running, but I don’t ever want to stop running that track which our Father has set before me, until the race is finished, the victory is won, and we are all gathered around the Throne. I won’t even think about four-wheelers any more.
