Thought For The Day

It’s Hot

I know this electrician. He is a good man and a hard worker. He has been doing some work for me and I am always amazed at both how smart he is, and how skilled he is at getting the job done.

I was watching him “hook up” some wires in the breaker panel in my barn that I had run underground from my new water pump house. About half-way through he said, “do you think I ought to kill the power before I do this?” I said, “I can’t believe it is still on in the first place.” Then he went on working on the wires and never did cut the power. After a few minutes he sent me to the pump house to see if the light was on that he had installed earlier. Of course it was, and thereby I understood that the pump I was to put in would work as advertised.

When I returned to the barn he was putting away his tools. “One ought to be quite careful when working around electricity”, he said.

I think that has a spiritual  counterpart. Some folks are trying to work on their Christian experience while still connected to the World (think of it as their power source).  And they keep getting “shocked” (which can easily become electrocution) because they are unwilling to disconnect. The distractions of the World will always damage our hearts and minds once we have committed to faith in Christ. It is always best to disconnect from those activities and actions which are hinderances to obediently following the Spirit of God into maturity.

If something electric around your house needs fixing, call an electrician. If some distraction in your Spiritual life is keeping you from moving toward maturity, check with your Heavenly Father. He has a answer and a fix for that.
