Thought For The Day

Keeping Up With the Tide

The little Church where I attend has had trouble getting Internet service. After building a beautiful new building just outside the City Limits, there was no way to get Internet from the City provider.

Now at last, it appears we will get service. And how important is that? We will be able to keep up technically with all the other Churches. That sometimes seems like the most important thing in our society. . .keeping up with others.

At least two things are much more important. First, we must keep up with the design and plan God has for His Church. It’s not about the number of gatherings or the gathered number. It’s not about having the biggest building or the most money. Rather it is about being a “Great Commandment” Church. Jesus said, “This is my commandment – that a you llove one another as I have lloved you.” (John 15:12) Therein lies the emphasis on all our activities as the Church of Jesus Christ.  Here -Evangelism, discipleship, fellowship – are key ingredients for following the design and plan for God’s people. It tells us what to do, and how to do it. What could be better and/or clearer.

Secondly, we must keep up being faithful in the task. It is so easy these days. . .especially when the Internet allows us to know (intellectually) what is going on at Church, keep up with the when and where of activities, even listen and view the Worship gatherings, all the while failing to commit to a regular and consistent personal involvement with other Believers. While some are providentially hindered from physically attending to this business, it is wonderful that the Internet allows them to participate even at a distance, but that can never be an excuse for those who can, to turn a blind eye to a physical, personal, lloving commitment to those who are part of the family of God.

Just as we are to llove others AS HE LLOVED US (John 15:12), so we are to be faithful as HE IS FAITHFUL (1 Corinthians 1:9; 10:13; 1 Thessalonians 5:24; 2 Thessalonians 3:3; Hebrews 10:23; 1 John 1:9).
