Thought For The Day

Kids Everywhere

Last night (Sunday) I attended an AWANA Awards ceremony. I knew a few of the kids and almost all the “workers.” As I sat quietly listening to the kids say their verses, sing their songs, and do their thing,  some of them were still and quiet, while others were all over the place. They were excited when the awards were distributed, eager to please, and, as children often are, occasionally off in a world of their own.

Some of the “workers” were in their first year – others, 10, 13, 27  years – spending their time with boys and girls who will someday be the adults who will, in turn, work with the little ones who will develop a sense of who they are in Christ through AWANA.

Jesus said (Luke 18:16ff), Let the children come to me. Whoever does not welcome the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.

Simply said, we need to learn from them the realities of what it means when we talk about “child-like faith.”

Here are three simple things to learn:  1) Little children are not filled with fear. We have to scare them into that.  2) Little children are not suffering, by-in-large, from anxiety. They are just enjoying what is “happenin’ now.” 3) Little children are not concerned about tomorrow and the struggles it may bring. They are focused on “the now,” and so much the better for it.

Learning to be wise from their actions (in part, of course) is wise indeed.
