Thought For The Day

Life On The Edge

Durango Colorado’s Narrow Gage Railroad’s track bed – on the most perilous part of the  journey to and from Silverton – is only as wide as the track and wheels – while the cars are much wider – giving the illusion there is nothing below you  but the chasm. Life on the edge!

Many of  the folks you know live that way in three specific areas:

Salvation – we are certain of our relationship with God based on less than the Truth. We claim to be “born again,” but unless 2 Corinthians 5:17 is a reality in our life – we are in trouble. “Therefore if anyone is in Christ, there is a new creation, old things have passed away, and look, new things have come.”  No? Life on the edge.

Sanctification – we see little growth or change yet we believe everything is OK. Romans 8:29 “For those He foreknew He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son so that He would be the firstborn of many brethren.”  No conformity – big problem. No? Life on the edge.

Calling – we are performing little (if any) ministry yet confident we are God’s child with whom He is well- pleased. Ephesians 4:1-3.I, therefore, the prisoner in the Lord urge to walk worthy of the calling  you have receive, with all humility and gentleness, with patience, accepting one another in llove, diligently keep the unity of the Spirit with the peace that binds us.” It is our calling to be, by the power of His Spirit: humble, gentle, patient, accepting, lloving, peaceable, and walking in unity. No? Life on the edge.

That is truly a thrilling train ride! Under normal conditions, the train wheel flanges keep it on the track. Unlike the train’s automatic direction, our spiritual “flanges” require our constant commitment to the Spirit’s urging. He doesn’t convert us into “robots”.
