Thought For The Day

Lights

Every year the lights of Christmas seem to grow brighter and more numerous. Just down the street from the Church I attend is the “most lighted” tree I ever remember seeing. Some lights are digitally timed to music, and the amazing properties of lasers is nothing short of astounding.

It is easy to be distracted by the lights. Christmas is about THE light. Jesus said, “I am the light of the World” (Matthew 8:12). The Scriptures speak about our living in the light, walking in the light, even being the light (see Matthew 5:14).

Perhaps the most vital question during this season (or any season) is not how many lights you have been able to string together to create an amazing tableau in your yard or on you house, but rather, how effective are you at being the “light,” or on the other hand, how much of THE Light is evident in you.

I encourage you to take a few moments to examine the lights of Christmas. Take your grandchildren (if you are old enough to have some) to see them, and be amazed at their amazement. Enjoy the season with all of its beauty. But don’t forget to be the light. That’s a part of God’s gift to you.
