Thought For The Day

Longing

As I listened to our Preacher today at the little Church I attend, I heard something I don’t think I have ever heard before. At least, if I have, I had forgotten.

I have to admit that it moved me to tears. Oh, it’s a simple Truth, and I should have learned it long ago. I never cease to be amazed at how the Word of God fits us exactly where we are as Believers, and speaks clearly to our circumstances and situations.

He (the Preacher) was taking as a text a few verses from Job. In Chapter 14, verse 15 (HCSB), we read these words:

You would call, and I would answer You.
You would long for the work of Your hands.

Job had been complaining a bit about his circumstances and situations, and indicated that death might be better than what had been his lot. . .of late. Then, he comes to realize that one day God would indeed call him to his Heavenly home.  Everything sounds about right. . . .

Then, I heard it. . .saw it, really. I know what it is to “long for someone, a llove that burns inside our innermost being when we are separated from one that is the most important person in our life.

We are “the work of His hand.” And He is longing for us, eager for us to be in that place prepared for His children, wanting to gather us. . .literally – in His arms forever and ever.

I tried to let that sink in. I have sung, “I have a longing in my heart for HIM.” But I had never stopped to realize that “He has a longing for me.” That is powerful! It changes things.

Oh, how He lloves you and me!!
