Thought For The Day

Missing Out

I am not noted for being one who keeps up with Pope Francis, head of the Roman Catholic Church. I did read in a recent interview, however, that he does not waste a single minute of his time watching television.

Pope Francis said he has not watched television since July 15, 1990, when he swore to the Virgin Mary that he’d cut the habit. It’s clearly worked out well for the Pontiff, who’s become one of the most important figures in the world—but what has he been missing out on in his television-free years? (TIME)

That interview was followed by an article describing the television shows that he might have enjoyed, or, what one writer felt he had missed. Here’s the list.

Fresh Prince of Bel-Air; Frasier; Sex and the City; Survivor; Mad Men;  Gracie and Frank.

Fortunately for that writer he was able to indicated why the Pope might not have liked any of those “great” shows anyway, and said the fact he did not watch them might be a reason why he is so much more productive than most people.

There is no doubt that most of television is a waste of productive time and a distraction from real life. I suppose there really are people out there who think “reality shows” are genuine reality. Pity them.

Perhaps the Believers among us need to be reminded that the Scripture tells us to, “Set your mind on the things that are above, not on the things that are upon the earth.” (Colossians 3:2)

I started to watch a movie the other night – “Son Of God.” Here’s my question. Why can’t the movie writers, producers, and directors just do it the way the Bible says, instead of changing so many things? After a few scenes I just turned it off. Perhaps I am at a disadvantage since I know what the Bible says. Then again, like the Pope, perhaps I am not disadvantaged at all by ignoring what the World has to offer.

He needs to turn off his science advisers also…they seem to have led him to Believe the world is warming (kinda like a few centuries ago when they told the pope that the world was flat).
Maybe the same could be said for his religious advisers also..they seem to teach that Mary can help him out.
