Thought For The Day

Never!

Perhaps the easiest activity in life is “giving up.” I don’t doubt that most, if not all of us, have had the temptation, and, if the truth be known, we have occasionally succumbed somewhere along the way.

That ought to be unknown among those who are empowered by the Spirit of the Living God. With His promise for absolute sufficiency in all things, we ought to be in route to continuous victory.

I am inspired by Diana Nyad. She is sixty-four (64) years old. Did you hear me? Sixty-four! This was her fifth attempt to swim in excess of 100 miles from Havana, Cuba to Key West, Florida. Fifty-three plus hours of swimming in Hellish conditions.

If you haven’t heard – here’s the report of her words on arrival, and completion of her 35 year quest:

“I got three messages,” an exhausted and happy Nyad told reporters. Her face was sunburned and swollen. “One is we should never, ever give up. Two is you never are too old to chase your dreams. Three is it looks like a solitary sport, but it’s a team,” she said. (CNN)

I llove it!! It is what we ought to say enthusiastically and continuously as we face the difficulties of becoming like the Savior. We must never, ever give up! While we will not reach perfection until we are translated into the next phase of life, the goal is ever before us. Age has nothing to do with working on the task with fervor and commitment. And the Church is a “team” who push and pull each other along, supporting and caring, helping and loving, giving and taking, in order to build one another into the household of God.

Get’s me so excited I may ask the Preacher if I can say a few words on Sunday!! (Well, maybe not)
