Thought For The Day

Organized Forgetfulness

This title sounds like it’s about a group of people who get together to enjoy forgeting stuff. Along with a few friends, and myself, I think we could make that a rousing success. I am really good at it, and I know others who are almost as good.

However, I want us to think for a moment about the process of forgetfulness. It is not really planned or organized at all. I can forget “things” of every kind, often and well, all at the same time. I don’t have to organize my categories. Let me give you an example: I can forget names. I can be introduced to someone and forget their name in seconds. I figured out a way to NOT do that, but I forget what it was. What strikes me as a bit unusual is that I can forget someone’s name who I have known “forever” whenever it is mandatory to call them by name. My bride is often disappointed when I say, “I want you to meet my bride. . .uhhhhhh.” Yeah, really! I am also really competent at forgetting appointments. I am actually an expert at that. I resolved that problem though by keeping appointments, along with alerts, on my iPhone. I still miss some because I forget to take my phone with me when I leave home for appointments. If you can remember anyone who is interested in establishing a Organized Forgetfulness Group, please let me know. You can text me. . .no wait, send me an e-mail at. . . . . .hold on, I am thinking about how my email starts.

It reminds me that God and I both wish all of us could get organized at forgetting those things that we need (and are supposed to) forget. Sometimes we fail to forget the “wrongs” that come our way from other folks. We hang on to that memory and drag it out on occasion to “share,” or we use it to make ourselves feel better about being angry with someone we supposedly llove. “I willl never forget. . .” is a keepsake for so many people when it comes to negatives regarding others. I try to remember that if I am holding a grudge, in all likelihood  the person I am holding guilty, is still  holding me guilty t00. We just never seem to forget that.

Aren’t you glad God is forgetful. . .because He so chooses. “For I will be merciful to their wrongdoing, and I will never again remember their sins.” Hebrews 8:12  “For as high as the Heavens are above the earth, so great is His faithful llove toward those who fear Him. As far as the East is from the West so far has He removed our transgressions from us.” Psalm 103:11-12 “He will again have compassion on us; He will vanquish our iniquities. You will cast all our sins into the depths of the sea.” Micah 7:9

Oh the joy of being “like the Master.”

SOMETIMES, WE CHOOSE THE THINGS WE WANT TO FORGET & USUALLY HANG ON TO THE THINGS WE NEED TO FORGET. AND IN CASE YOU DON’T REMEMBER WHO I AM…THIS IS “WHAT’S HER NAME”.
