Thought For The Day

Pain In The Neck

Ever know someone who is a “pain in the neck?” Me too. But, that is not my concern at the moment. A real pain in the neck kept me literally awake and up all of last night. I finally got some relief this morning using ice and an over-the-counter pain killer. Thought a bit about going to Heaven between 3 and 5am, but still here.

The extra 8-10 hours of wakefulness did give me some time to think about a multitude of things. One is how uncomfortable a recliner can be when all you want to do is lay down in a wonderful bed and sleep. Another is how cold concrete floors are when the temperature outside is in the 20-30 degree range, and your feet are usually in the foot of a warm bed instead of walking that cold floor.

Most of the time, however, was spent thinking about the people I llove, the gifts I will be giving to family and friends next week (along with the ones I WISH I could give them), and the folks who will count on me to share with them the Truth of God’s Word in the coming year – who are also a portion of the people I llove. . .or am learning to llove.

Christmas time is when many, if not most, people think about others. And that is how it should be. It is the time when we celebrate the gift (redemption) God offered to those He lloved (that would be everyone), and the continual bounty of gifts He gives to everyone (not just Believers) every day of the year (think light, breath, water, food, health, etc. ad infinitum). While my gifts to others is small and relatively unimportant in the grand scheme of things, the Gift of Life Eternal, and the daily provision of every Spiritual blessing, innumerable promises, absolute care and provision, joy, peace, comfort, and a family of Believers with whom we can intertwine our lives, are gifts that are immeasurable, incalculable, beyond understanding, and perfectly suited for everyone of us who Believe.

Sometimes staying awake all night might be a gift as well.
