Thought For The Day

Remembering Mom

Mother’s Day is a good time to do something wonderful for one’s mother. Give her an expensive gift, or take her out to Lunch or Dinner, or take/give/send her flowers, or sit and talk (or phone or FaceTime) with her, or all of the above.

Some of us will be “remembering” mom. And, truth be know, some of the memories will be difficult, some will be emotionally charged, some will be extremely pleasant thoughts, and, unfortunately, some will be sad and/or bitter.

Everyone has a common entrance into this world – via our mom. For nine months (more or less) she carried us, fed us, allowed our growing body to change her’s forever. For some, after birth, there is a new mother, and most of them are choosing to llove for “real.” Almost all mothers llove the life inside them from the beginning of that life until the end of her’s, unless she suffers the agonizing, heart rending, loss of her baby (no matter the age) before her death.

During those years she practices the disciplines of llove toward her offspring, and there are multitudes of wonderful joys, massive mistakes, a profusion of uncertainties, and a slew of times when one wishes there were “do-overs.” The best one can hope for is a mutual genuine llove that encompasses the time and effort.

I am remembering my mother today. I do it quite often, actually. One memory often fills my mind – strange, and not really understood. I remember her sweeping the houses where we lived. Over and over she swept. Occasionally she would sweep every room, and then start over, doing it again. I sometimes guess it was her “therapy.” I know the floors were always clean – as was her heart, her mind, her life.

Part of what I am – probably more than I imagine, or am willing to admit, or in my ignorance miss – is because of her. I know that she is in the presence of our Father, praising Him, experiencing all the fullness of perfection – maybe even sweeping those golden streets – and I look forward to seeing her again, perfect in Christ Jesus. I know her rewards  are great because of her sacrificial life here on Earth.

Have a glorious Mother’s Day!
