Thought For The Day

Safety Inspection

I spent a couple of hours with the Fire Marshal today. . .helping a friend with the annual inspection of the Church building. I was there by happenstance, but was the only one with any knowledge of where the sprinkler equipment was and how it operated, the procedure for checking and testing, and where the electric panels were located (in rooms prepared for that, of course).

It took long than I thought it would and. . .there were some issues. With an agreement that the Church would make some changes, promise to replace some batteries, and remove un-allowed items from the electric panel rooms, he agreed to come back in a week or two and, and if all was well, approve the building for another year.

No one expects that the Church building is going to burn down, or that the power will be out on a dark night when the building has to be evacuated (emergency lights must work), but it is possible that will occur. Hence, one must be prepared.

I was thinking maybe the members of the local Church body might also need some “inspection” on a regular basis. Perhaps the constancy of prayer has petered out, or the necessary time meditating on the Truth of God’s Word has been crowded  out by the distractions of everyday life, or knowing and living with the “fruit of the Spirit” is a distant memory. Every life experiences some “fires” of various kinds (think: heart attack, cancer, loss of a friend or family member, auto accident, house fire, etc.), and the availability of the power, or peace, or comfort, or strength of God’s presence and care, is mandatory. Preparation from a Spiritual perspective needs to be current, correct, and clear. The best place to find help with that is with the local congregation of Believers who are practicing the principles of Scripture and lloving one another.

No one I know really likes “inspections.” But, they can save you a good bit of heartache and pain. Need an “inspection” of your status with God? Let me know. Maybe I can help.
