Sanctuary Cities

Gilmer, Texas is not far from where these posts are published. I was surprised to hear the news.

Ordinances to declare towns “sanctuary cities for the unborn”—that is, declaring abortion illegal within city limits—are beginning to be introduced in municipalities across Texas. This week, city councils in the towns of Gilmer and Abilene were encouraged to adopt such resolutions at their meetings on Tuesday and Thursday, respectively. While I can personally support such action, and am glad to do so, I am reminded that the Church of Jesus Christ is not called to be involved in the Governmental and Political actions of our States and Nation. We are citizens of another Kingdom in such matters, and our focus is to be involved in the spreading of the Gospel and building the Kingdom of God in the life of those who  are part of the family of God.

Leadership in such matters must be left to those who believe that laws and resolutions related to those who are not part of the Kingdom of God (unbelievers) will somehow make a difference when the Supreme Court of the United States has ruled relentlessly that the murder of the unborn is somehow a “right.”

I am unalterably convinced that the only thing that will change the heart and mind of those who have yet to come to faith in Christ is an encounter with Truth that allows the Spirit of God to quicken their dead heart with the light of life through the sacrificial blood of Christ on Calvary. My job is to keep spreading the news.
