Thought For The Day

Set Your Heart

Seeking the Lord God certainly has its focus on those who are yet unconverted, but think with me for a moment about those who are God’s people.

1 Chronicles 22:19“Now determine in your mind and heart to seek the Lord your God.” In one sense, setting our heart on the Lord is the entire focus of our life. Once He is our Savior, we need to seek Him, as Charles Spurgeon said, as Friend, Sanctifier, and Example. How does one do that?

Do it through obedience – Test everything by  God’s Word. Do no willful sin – by commission or omission. Serve Him recognizing that nothing is small in that endeavor. Someone said, “the house most often falls not because of the wind, but the dry rot unseen in the timbers.” Pledge to live more watchfully in every area: private, family, business, and in the house of God.

Do it by focusing your heart – by having an intensity of affection toward God’s service and glory. Success does not come to heartless efforts. No one is good at something by accident. No one ever became Holy by chance.

Do it through the intellect of  your mind – your whole mind should be focused, present, and energetic on honoring God. Work as hard as you do at any other endeavor, and be as intense in Holy things as in lesser things.

Seek Him with a concentration of all your faculties. You can’t serve a dozen masters!

Do it now! Verse 18 says “God is with you.” Do it while  you are young. If you don’t give Him the morning of your life, you probably won’t give Him the evening either. Do it in middle age. You are experienced, smart, accomplished in many ways. Do it in your older years because you are wise, and there is a shortness of time.

Set your heart.
