Thought For The Day

Shadow of the Almighty

Yesterday (July 26the) I was summoned to a motor vehicle accident where a single car had been involved in a “high speed” rollover. I arrived within a matter of minutes and saw the fire trucks, local police and Sheriff, Texas DPS, and an ambulance. I found out later that the car was traveling at the speed limit (70) on cruise control. The driver had fallen asleep, crossed over the roadway into oncoming traffic and been awakened by the rumble strip on the wrong side of a four lane highway. In an attempt to resolve the situation the driver crossed back to the other side of the road, but at the speed with which the car was moving, it was almost immediately on the opposite side of the road and headed toward the ditch. In an attempt to correct that problem, the brakes were applied and an attempt to return to the road caused a “rollover” leaving the car lying on its top. The gas tank had ruptured, the windshield was smashed, one tire was blown and the automobile was a total loss, never to run again.

I was invited to enter the ambulance where the driver lay, greeting me with a cheery hello, and a “I am sorry I wrecked your car” conversation. The Paramedics advised me they could find nothing wrong medically or mentally, their patient was clear-headed, answering difficult questions with ease, and perfectly oriented. In light of the facts surrounding the wreck, however,  they would take their patient to the hospital for a CT scan and other diagnostic tools. I followed them to the hospital and after a couple of hours brought the “driver” home. While there is some bruising, and a sore neck, there is not a single scratch, cut, broken part, injury requiring additional care, or concern regarding the ordeal. The car, on the other hand, is a total lost.

Here’s the reason, the answer, and the Truth:

The one who lives under the protection of the Most High
dwells in the shadow of the Almighty.
I will say to the Lord, “My refuge and my fortress,
my God, in whom I trust.”
He Himself will deliver you. . .   (Psalm 91:1-3a)
