Thought For The Day

Shipboard Bible Study

It’s right there in the printed agenda for each day aboard the cruise ship – 9:30am Bible Study (unhosted). It’s that last word that creates the  problem. Evidently no one employed by the Cruise line wants the job of hosting the Bible Study. Of course, since the crowd is limited to somewhere between one and less than a dozen, it doesn’t affect many, if any, people.

Making it a part of my day is my plan, except when I am not able to attend because I am leaving the ship for an excursion prior to that time. I am almost always disappointed. Sometimes I am alone, and that allows time for reflection and prayer, but I always covet the opportunity to share a little Truth. Other times, there is someone there who gets things rolling by creating an intellectual environment where ignorance rules (I don’t mean that critically or harshly) and the discussion is about things we can pray for (good, but not Bible Study), or dealing with issues for which little to no Truth is expounded to resolve the issue.

Believe it or not (and for most of you it will be “not”) I seldom say anything. This trip was a bit different. On two of the days I was there the FATHER provided an opportunity to speak. There was, of course, shock and awe, for indeed the Truth is fresh and alive for so many who never get to hear what the Scriptures SAYS and MEANS (John 8:32). My comments did engender questions, and two or three people indicated they would be contacting me subsequently to learn more (we’ll see).

I am neither surprised, nor discouraged (opportunity abounds) that there is so little known about God’s Word. Even those who attend services in buildings called Churches often know very little about Truth, Llove, Salvation, Sanctification, Heaven and Hell. It’s no wonder our Nation wanders in darkness and God’s message, designed to be proclaimed by His people, languishes in ignorance.

Now, just to be sure – let me define “ignorance” from my perspective –” people just don’t know the TRUTH regardless their intellectual prowess.” The Church (God’s Body of Believers) is not doing well in America. And you and I know whose fault that is – Ours. Heaven help us.
