Thought For The Day

Small Things

Everybody knows that small things often add up to big things over the course of time. Who among us has not started a savings account at the bank and seen it grow into enough money to do some good somewhere along the line.

The Church I attend has started two new financial operations since I have been attending there (a little over a year now). They began a fund for Intra-Church Missions. Sometimes the people who are part of our family have a need, often small, sometimes large. When the Church has set aside some funds for the particular purpose of helping with those needs, we are better prepared to quickly move forward with a demonstration of llove. Our fund started off very small, just a few dollars. But every month as we add a percentage of the gifts given to our Family, it grows. We have yet to have an occasion to use any of those funds (thank God), but that day will come, and in under a year there is enough to be of real help to those who are hurting.

In addition, we just started a Scholarship Fund. We will use only funds donated for that particular purpose for the present, and while it will take a few years to build up, when some of our children are ready for College, we will be able to provide a little financial help. And who knows, someone will make a “large” contribution one day, and we will be able to do so much more.

It is not unlike spending a little time in prayer each day, or taking time to read a passage from the Scripture. Often, people who do, find a little more time for prayer, and begin reading extensively from the Scripture and supporting literature. A little, become a lot, and we begin to realize that we are living more in line with God’s design, and we begin to see much more than we originally thought possible in the process of growing toward the image of our Savior.

Perhaps you would like to invest a few more minutes, or a few more dollars. It won’t seem like much in the beginning, but the exponential growth when all of us are busy at such investments will be huge. Somewhere down the line others will be blessed by your involvement in the life of the Body of Christ.
