Summer Fun

Remember when you just couldn’t wait for summer? School’s was out (good for kids, tough on parents), swimming was appropriate (where ever there was water), and watermelon was on its way. It was light enough to hang around outside till 9pm, and bikes and skateboards and such were waiting to be mastered.

Who am I kidding. Those days are long gone. Kids now are inside – TV, video games, texting,  tweeting, Facebook, Wii, x-box, etc. Few like the heat, and getting out of the back yard is considered dangerous.

I’m always looking for a good swimming hole, some watermelon, and only the mosquitos drive me inside before dark. (Do those “clip-on” things work?)

Times have changed. God hasn’t. I think he knows about Summer fun – picnics and such, and keeps bringing around the Spring to get us excited about what is coming. Get outside, if you can stand it, and find a park, a garden, a creek bank, a swimming hole (for adults), or whatever. They are still out there – and you need them to keep you “young.” That rocker in front of the TV will “do you in.”  Heaven is coming. . .and I wouldn’t be surprised if God’s got a secret hole -deep, and cold. . .and invigorating.
