Thought For The Day

Super Bowl

I listened to the last half of the Super Bowl on the radio last night. I was rooting for the Eagles and I was pleased that they won. I am a Cowboys fan, though I have lost most of my enthusiasm for the sport because of the politics.

I missed the first half. Some friends and I were having a discussion about the difference between “access” and “entry.” In light of the game – one might have “access” due to having purchased a ticket, but to see the game in person one would have to travel to Minnesota and use that “access” to “enter” the stadium.

The discussion we had came out of the use of those two words in Scripture (we were at our Church during the first half). In the Old Testament one had access to forgiveness (via the sacrificial offerings) but was unable to enter the presence of God (represented by the Holy of Holies in the Temple).

After the last sacrificial Lamb (the Eternal Son of God) gave His life on Calvary (see John 19:30), entry into the very Throne Room of God’s Heaven was available for all who would care to “draw close” to the Infinite, Almighty, Lord of Heaven and Earth.

There are many who have access to God (because they have truly come to faith, and received the grace of God purchased [redeemed] with the blood of Jesus), but find themselves failing to “come boldly” (see Hebrews 4:16) to God, invoking His blessings, being lavished by His grace and llove, and empowered by His Spirit.

Actually, that 45 minutes discussion, in my opinion, was a whole lot better than the entire ball game.
