Thought For The Day

Surprised

Surprised? I think so. The Biblical narrative appears to indicate that the women who went to the tomb were shocked that the body was not there. The Disciples that ran to the tomb following their notification were hopeful, but no doubt somewhat confused about what had occurred.

We tend to think that we (at least most genuine Believers) would have listened better, understood more, reacted with greater faith, and eagerly awaited the resurrection. The facts of watching the lives of many 21st Century Believers supports something less. Surprised?

Our resurrection to “new life” reality (Romans 6:4; Colossians 3:1) is not easily seen, or as enthusiastically embraced as it should be in the life of the 21st century Church. The early Church (think – Disciples, Paul, the women of NT Scripture, the expansive growth at Pentecost) literally turned the World upside down. They knew resurrection power (see Philippians 3:10), overcoming faith (1 John 4:4) (even in the midst of martyrdom), and an absolute confidence that the risen Christ had empowered them to be about taking the Good News to the known World. (see 1 Peter 2:9ff)

Celebrate resurrection that is not isolated to Jesus of Nazareth, but to every Believer, those who possess His Spirit (Romans 8:9), empowering life day by day.
