Thought For The Day

Taking the Day Off

If one works in a local congregation of Believers (a Church) there is one day that is always the primary focus – Sunday. Sunday is when the Body of Christ gathers, sings praises to God, learns Truth from those who teach and preach, pray, and minister to one another – all the while sharing their life with those around them.

It is designed by God, even commanded by God, to be a day which is clearly focused on Him and His people. Sometimes (and you have to decide when it is true) some folks opt out.

Perhaps the following revelation will help us to understand the problem.

LSU defensive end Sam Montgomery had an interesting press conference at the NFL scouting combine. The Advocate in Baton Rouge had this interesting piece of information from Montgomery.
“You know, some weeks when we didn’t have to play the harder teams, there were some times when effort was not needed,” he said.

It is likely that some NFL teams may pass on drafting a guy who only “plays hard,” or expends effort, when he think he “needs” to.

Every Believer is needed every Sunday. There are no “easy days” in the life of the Church. There are no Sunday’s when people are not hurting, discouraged, struggling with life’s issues, and in desperate need of the support and encouragement that the “spiritual family” can supply. Even more important, since God has commanded the “gathering” (see Hebrews 10:24-25), desires our praise and adoration, and the support we share with one another, we rebel when we choose lesser things.
